Abstract
Bidirectional DC-DC converters are required to meet several core demands in DC microgrid energy storage systems, including seamless reversal of power flow, wide voltage range adaptability, high power transmission capability, and high efficiency under light-load conditions. Existing converter topologies struggle to fully satisfy these requirements. This paper proposes a novel bidirectional cascaded converter structure that integrates a CLLC resonant converter with a Buck/Boost converter. A sophisticated control strategy is also introduced to achieve smooth transitions between buck and boost operating modes, effectively eliminating transient voltage and current spikes commonly observed in conventional hard-switching or mode-switching converters. Experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed topology and control strategy. The converter offers a high-performance and cost-effective solution for applications requiring efficient bidirectional power conversion over wide voltage ranges.
