Abstract
In recent years, discharge accidents involving the clamping slings in converter valve modules have occurred in multiple HVDC converter stations domestically and internationally. To investigate the discharge mechanism of clamping sling, a comprehensive evaluation of the electrical, mechanical, and material properties of faulty samples was conducted through methods including electric field simulation analysis, X-ray scanning, insulation resistance tests, elemental composition detection, and ion content detection. The results indicate that high ion content in the clamping sling is the root cause of the discharge fault. This study not only provides a scientific basis for the failure analysis of clamping sling but also offers guidance for developing effective preventive measures and improvement strategies. It holds significant practical value for ensuring the safe operation of converter valve equipment.
